Japan 3rd on World's Best Food Countries

The honor comes from Condé Nast's Readers' Choice Awards

At this point in time, Japan's culinary reputation needs little introduction. The dining scene spans everything from Michelin-starred fine dining to mom-and-pop style ramen shops, making it a global food destination for quite some time. That standing has just been reaffirmed, with Japan named the world's third best country for food in Condé Nast Traveler's 2025 Readers' Choice Awards.

According to the magazine, Japanese cuisine continues to capture the hearts and appetites of travelers worldwide for its balance of precision, freshness, and artistry. The ranking reflects how deeply food is woven into the country's cultural identity, from sushi and sashimi crafted with seasonal seafood to the beauty of a kaiseki meal.

While Tokyo is often the face of Japan's fine dining scene, home to more Michelin stars than any other city on earth, food lovers will find just as much inspiration beyond the capital. In Kyoto, traditional ryokans serve elaborate home-style meals that celebrate regional specialties, while in Hokkaido, rich dairy products and ultra-fresh seafood are highlights. Even simple train station bento or a bowl of soba at a countryside rest stop can leave a lasting impression.

The Condé Nast readers' ranking places Japan among an elite group of food destinations, among the likes of Italy and Thailand, and highlights how Japanese cuisine continues to evolve while staying true to its roots. What makes dining in Japan so special is not only the flavor but also the respect for ingredients, craftsmanship, and presentation that defines every dish.
