Can you see the man squatting in front of the wooden fence at the left bottom of the photo? That's how I took pictures of 'Four Heavenly Kings' without obstruction from the wire nets. He saw me do it and copied me!

This photo story is to guide you step-by-step as you explore Eiheiji Temple in Fukui, the Zen temple of 'Eternal Peace'. The eleventh guide focuses on 'Sanmon Gate', the main gate and official entrance of Eiheiji Temple. Rebuilt in 1749, this is the oldest architecture of all 70 buildings on the grounds of Eiheiji, and one of the seven important buildings (Shichido-Garan). This gate is guarded by the formidable-looking statues of 'Four Heavenly Kings (Shitenno)'. Unfortunately, they were covered by wire nets. But those who'd like to take photos of them without obstruction desperately, there is a secret way. Those who are interested, please read the photo captions carefully!
