Koganei Park is the second largest park in the Tokyo metropolitan area. It was opened in 1954. It features a number of attractions including its spacious grassy area, surrounding forests, cherry trees, children’s playgrounds, an archery area, a steam locomotive display and 16 tennis courts. A "must see" in Koganei Park is sakura during hanami season. The park features nearly 2,000 sakura trees.

The Edo-Tokyo Open-Air Architectural Museum, opened in March 1993, features buildings of different historical periods that were built by famous Japanese architects. The buildings were moved from their original locations and arranged within the grounds of the museum.

During my stay in the Higashi-Koganei area, I went to Koganei Park. Unfortunately, I was late to visit the Edo-Tokyo Open-Air Architectural Museum, but I could enjoy the sakura a lot. Koganei Park seemed not as crowded as Ueno Park.

Koganei Park is located in front of the Koganei Koen Nishiguchi Bus stop on the Seibu Bus departing from Musashi Koganei Station on the JR Chuo Line.
