Kawabata Ryushi (1885-1966) is one of the most admired Japanese artists from the Showa Era (1926-1988). He used huge canvases (usually more than 7 meters in length), drew pictures that reflected contemporary social conditions, and was interested in controversial themes. The Ryushi Museum is located in a residential area in Omori, Tokyo, and is situated next to Kawabata's house and artier. At 10 and 11 AM and 2 PM, upon request, a curator will guide you through the house and artier. Ryushi had a few collaborative exhibitions with Kawai Gyokudo and Yokoyama Taikan, who were also great masters from the same generation.
