Kegon Falls is located at Lake Chūzenji in Nikkō National Park, in the Tochigi prefecture. The 97-metre high falls are one of Japan's Top Three Waterfalls, and are also recognised as the Eight Best Views of Showa-period Japan. Kegon Falls is especially popular during the height of autumn foliage season, where visitors travel to Nikko to admire the golden-orange colours surrounding the waterfall.
Visitors to the falls can admire the towering views from observation platforms at the top and base of the waterfall. You can also get a bird's eye view of Kegon Falls from the Akechidaira Plateau ropeway. During winter, if temperatures drop to sub-zero, the falls might freeze completely.
