Hotel Nisshokan, Nagasaki

A nice stay with spectacular views of the city

Its history of contact and interaction with Europe, its tragic fate as victim of the second atomic bomb, and miraculous resurgence since the war have made Nagasaki one of the most cosmopolitan and eclectic cities in Japan. Nagasaki is nowadays a center of peace promotion blessed by beautiful nature and historical and cultural locations.

If you are thinking to visit the historic, romantic and exotic Nagasaki, why not stay at the great Hotel Nisshokan? It is located a 10 minutes drive from Nagasaki Station on a hilltop and features spectacular views of Nagasaki. Known as the 10 million dollar nightscape, Nagasaki was selected as one of the three best night views in the world in 2012.

The Japanese-style guestrooms feature tatami flooring with Western bedding. Each room offers a fridge, green tea and a TV with cable channels. Private bathrooms are equipped with a bathtub and hairdryer.

The hotel offers a variety of Western and Japanese buffet dishes for breakfast. During my stay at Nisshokan, I also had the opportunity to enjoy a wonderful buffet for dinner. It was an amazing experience to try, among other beautiful Japanese dishes, the incredible Chinese dishes born here in Nagasaki, like the famous Shippoku Ryori, Champon and Sara-udon.

Champon is made by frying pork, seafood and vegetables with lard; a soup made with chicken and pig bones is added. Ramen noodles made especially for champon are added and then boiled. Unlike other ramen dishes, only one pan is needed as the noodles are boiled in the soup. Sara-udon, literally "plate noodles", consists of a base of noodles, and a topping of fried cabbage, bean sprouts and other vegetables, as well as squid, prawns, pork and kamaboko etc. Let’s not forget about the Castella, a pound cake that was introduced by the Portuguese in the 16th century and still lives on today as a traditional sweet of Nagasaki.

Guests at Nisshokan can also enjoy a relaxing bath at the public bath. The best thing is, wherever you are within the hotel (guestrooms, restaurant, lounge or public bath) you always can enjoy a panoramic view of Nagasaki and the port. You always can enjoy the beautiful nightscape and feel the romantic atmosphere of this city. The staff were warm, very friendly and helpful making my stay at Nisshokan a great experience.

A free shuttle service connects JR Nagasaki Station and Hotel Nisshokan which is offered at the following times:

  • From JR Nagasaki Train Station : 16:00/17:00/18:00/19:00/20:00
  • From the hotel: 08:10/09:10/10:10/15:40/16:40/17:40/18:40/19:40.
