Tokyo International Fire & Disaster Prevention Exhibition 2023

Explore Japan's approaches to dealing with disasters

When
June 15th - June 18th 2023 過去的活動

Japan is prone to natural disasters due to its geographic location along the Pacific Ring of Fire, where tectonic plates converge and result in the likes of earthquakes, volcanic eruptions, and tsunamis. These vulnerabilities have prompted advanced disaster preparedness measures, technological innovations, and a resilient mindset to mitigate their impact.

The Tokyo International Fire and Disaster Prevention Exhibition is a large-scale event which showcases some of the country's approaches to dealing with disasters, and it's held once every five years.

Attendees can check out the latest firefighting vehicles owned by the Tokyo Fire Department, watch firefighting and rescue performances by the US Navy fire brigade, and plenty more. There are even children's experience areas where little ones can experience "firefighting" for themselves.

Please note that whilst admission to the event is free, registration is required for anyone junior high school age and above. This can be organized via the event website here.

Getting there

The event takes place at the Tokyo Big Sight East Outdoor Exhibition Space, which can be accessed in just three minutes on foot from Tokyo Big Sight Station (Yurikamome Line).
