Ashikaga Flower Park: Water Lilies

Also famous for its incredible Wisteria in spring

Ashikaga Flower Park in Tochigi Prefecture is well-known for its beautiful Wisteria, April-May. But the wide park is worth a visit just about any time of the year. In summer, the featured flower is the Water Lilly. Although not as spectacular as the Wisteria, it's a good time to visit if just for the fact that there aren't any crowds. I went in mid-August, and felt as if I were in Thailand or Vietnam. Most Water Lillies are pink or violet, but I also found white and yellow ones. This was my first time to photograph them - not sure how I did. What do you think?! They are quite different than the gorgeous Japanese Lotus - small and sharp and flat as opposed to large and soft and tall - but they are still very pretty in their own way!
